An Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court has ordered the remand of Patrick Ukpenor, 72, at Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

Magistrate E. Kubrinhe adjourned the case until August 13 for trial, without taking Ukpenor's plea.

The prosecution, led by Insp. John Iberedem, alleged that Ukpenor committed the offense on July 4 at Amutu Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos, contrary to Sections 261 and 263(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The charges carry a three-year jail term for sexual assault and life imprisonment for sexual assault by penetration if convicted.
