The attack on the village of Garin Gabas, Niger State, began in the evening of July 24, 2023, when a group of suspected bandits entered the village, setting fire to two security vehicles and injuring two security personnel.

The most tragic result of the attack was the abduction of a nursing mother and two other villagers.

According to eyewitnesses, the abducted nursing mother was holding her baby at the time of her abduction, causing further distress and concern for the safety of both mother and child.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of approximately 100 armed bandits entered the village of Garin Gabas, Niger State, on July 24, 2023.

The bandits were said to have been angered by the presence of security personnel in the village and began shooting and burning property, including two operational vehicles belonging to the security force.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed his condolences to the people of Kagara Emirate Council following the attack by bandits, during which a nursing mother and other villagers were abducted.

In a statement, Bago urged the people to remain vigilant and provide credible intelligence to the authorities to assist in preventing future attacks.

The governor also praised the bravery of the security operatives who fought back against the bandits and called for their quick recovery.

He further prayed for the safe return of the abducted villagers.
