Four Dismissed Soldiers Arrested for Alleged Murder of NDLEA Personnel

A tragic incident occurred at Ramat junction in Bida Local Government Area, Niger, resulting in the death of a personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Four dismissed soldiers have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder.

According to the Police Public Relation Officer, SP Waisu Abiodun, a team of NDLEA officers were conducting a stop and search operation at Ramat Junction when they intercepted two suspected soldiers on a motorcycle. The suspects, not in uniform, failed to provide proper identification, and an altercation ensued. The suspects left the scene, returned with additional men, and allegedly attacked the NDLEA officers.

During the fight, NDLEA officer Kingsley Chimetalo was stabbed in the back with a Jack-knife and his rifle taken away. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Bida, where he was later confirmed dead. The police immediately launched an investigation, recovering the deceased rifle in a nearby bush.

The investigation, conducted in collaboration with 18 Brigade, Nigeria Army Bida, led to the identification of six soldiers who were court-martialed and dismissed. Four of the suspects, Sani Munzani, Abubakar Auwalu, Abubakar Sani, and Muazu Hassan, were handed over to the police for prosecution. Sani Munzani confessed to stabbing the deceased NDLEA officer.

The suspects are currently under investigation at SCID Minna and will be charged to court for prosecution once the investigation is concluded. This incident highlights the need for collaboration between law enforcement agencies to combat crime and ensure justice is served.
