Federal High Court Orders Eviction of Emir Sanusi II from Gidan Rumfa Palace

Justice S. A. Amobeda issued the ruling on Tuesday, May 28, citing the need to uphold justice and maintain peace in Kano. He also directed the police to ensure that all rights and privileges are accorded to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero.

The ex parte order included an interim injunction prohibiting the respondents from taking any actions that would invite, arrest, detain, threaten, intimidate, or harass the applicant. It also prevented the respondents from raiding, tampering with, or visiting the applicant’s residence with the intent to arrest or infringe on his rights, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.

Furthermore, the order restrained the 3rd, 4th, and 5th respondents, along with others, from denying the applicant access to his official residence and palace at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu. It ensured the applicant's enjoyment of all rights and privileges as the Emir of Kano State and ordered the eviction of any unauthorized occupants within the palace, pending the determination of the originating summons.

The case has been adjourned to June 4, 2024, for further hearing. This decision follows a previous order by a state high court, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, which had temporarily halted the eviction of Emir Sanusi II.
