Diddy Faces Federal Grand Jury Investigation Over Sexual Assault Allegations

According to report, investigators have informed witnesses that they might be called to testify before a federal grand jury in New York City. A spokesperson for the Homeland Security Investigations agency (HSI) declined to comment on the grand jury's existence but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Since November, Combs has been named in multiple civil lawsuits accusing him of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and rape. He has denied all allegations, with his attorneys describing the lawsuits as baseless and financially motivated.

Potential witnesses have not yet been prepared for testimony, as HSI investigators are still collecting evidence and questioning sources to ensure a strong case for any possible indictment. Grand juries, composed of ordinary citizens, are used by prosecutors to subpoena documents and witnesses and to decide on criminal charges.

The convening of a grand jury would represent a major escalation in the government's investigation into Combs. The federal investigation was launched following eight civil lawsuits filed against him since November, seven of which accuse him of sexual assault.

The first lawsuit was filed by Combs' former partner, singer, and dancer Cassie, who alleged years of abuse under the New York Adult Survivors Act, which allowed adult victims of sexual assault to file civil claims regardless of the statute of limitations.

Cassie, whose full name is Casandra Ventura, alleged that Combs trafficked, raped, and beat her over a decade. Surveillance footage obtained by CNN on May 17 corroborated parts of Ventura's complaint, showing an incident in March 2016 where Combs chased, punched, and kicked her in a Los Angeles hotel.

The footage showed Combs shoving Ventura into a corner and throwing an object at her. Two days after the footage was released, Combs apologized for his actions in the video, calling his behavior inexcusable and taking full responsibility.

The lawsuit against Combs was settled for an undisclosed amount a day after Ventura filed it.
