With profound sorrow, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters announced the passing of former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), on Sunday.

According to Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, Admiral Ogohi died in the early hours of Sunday at his Abuja residence.

Born on November 14, 1948, in Okura Olafia, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Admiral Ogohi had a distinguished naval career, becoming the first Nigerian Navy officer to attain the rank of four-star general. He served as Chief of Defence Staff from 1999 to 2003 and had previously held various command and staff positions, including Commanding Officer of NNS France and Director of Administration at the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Admiral Ogohi's extensive training and education included midshipman and technical courses in the UK and India, underwater warfare training in India, and naval war college courses in the US. His legacy as a distinguished naval officer and defence chief will be deeply missed. Further details of his burial arrangements will be announced later.
