Zhang was participating in a match on Sunday when he suddenly fell to the floor. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he tragically passed away that night due to cardiac arrest.

The incident has raised concerns about the medical response at the venue, with footage showing a 40-second delay before any assistance arrived on the court.

The BWF has stated that it is taking all necessary steps to thoroughly review the matter in consultation with Badminton Asia and the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).

A spokesman for PBSI attributed the delayed emergency response to the referee, stating that they were following BWF rules. However, the BWF has emphasized that it will determine if changes to these guidelines are needed after the review.

The federation is also awaiting an official report from Badminton Asia and the local organizing committee to assess whether proper medical procedures were followed when Zhang collapsed.

The review aims to understand the circumstances surrounding Zhang's death and ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The badminton community has been left shocked and saddened by Zhang's tragic death, and the BWF's review is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of players in the sport.
