President Bola Tinubu has highlighted the importance of peaceful protests in a democratic society, drawing from his personal experience as a participant in various demonstrations throughout his career.

Receiving the Letter of Credence from the new US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu stressed that protests are essential to democracy but must never result in violence or destruction of lives and property.

Tinubu reflected on his past activism during the military era, noting that he engaged in peaceful protests against dictatorship without resorting to destructive actions.

He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining Nigeria's 25-year streak of unbroken democracy, emphasizing the need for cooperation with the US on shared democratic values.
