Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed organizers of the planned August 1-10 protests to submit their details to the commissioners of police in their respective states.
This move aims to ensure a peaceful protest, as the police acknowledge the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
Egbetokun requested that protest leaders provide:
- Proposed protest routes and assembly points
- Expected duration of the citizens claim
- Names and contact details of organizers
This comes after human rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa requested protection for the Take It Back Movement, and the Department of State Services (DSS) claimed to have uncovered plans by some individuals to hijack it and use it to discredit the government.
