The body of Prof. Olorunfemi Olaofe, a 79-year-old retired university lecturer and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, has been discovered in a shallow grave over three weeks after his kidnapping.
The police found his body along Airport Road, but the cause of death remains uncertain, leaving questions about whether it was due to natural causes or murder by his kidnappers.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N50m, later reduced to N15m, and the police have arrested several suspects, including the professor's security guard, who is believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping.
The Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale, confirmed the discovery and stated that the police are working to exhume the body for burial, while also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
