Nigerian athlete Ese Brume's hopes of securing a medal in the women's long jump event at the 2024 Olympic Games were dashed, as she finished fifth in the final.
Brume, 28, achieved a mark of 6.70m, falling short of her expected podium finish. Her performance was a surprise, given her bronze medal win in Tokyo three years ago.
"I'm disappointed, but I gave it my all," Brume said in a post-event interview. "The competition was fierce, and I couldn't execute my jumps as planned."
Despite her disappointment, Brume remains optimistic about her future in the sport.
"This is not the end for me. I'll regroup, refocus, and come back stronger," she vowed.
Brume's fifth-place finish is a testament to the intense competition at the Olympics, and she will undoubtedly learn from this experience.
