In a statement released on Friday, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that Monday, September 16th, 2024, will be observed as a public holiday to commemorate the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.

This significant Islamic festival marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister extended warm congratulations to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and around the world, urging them to embody the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience. 

"While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on this occasion, I implore them to use this opportunity to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous egalitarian nation," Minister Tunji-Ojo stated.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, emphasized the Minister's message, encouraging Nigerians to embrace the spirit of sacrifice and resilience. 

"As we celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, let us reflect on his teachings and strive to build a more harmonious and prosperous society," Dr. Ajani added.

This public holiday declaration is a testament to the Federal Government's commitment to recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultures and religions in Nigeria. 

As Nigerians mark this significant occasion, they are encouraged to come together in prayer, reflection, and celebration, promoting unity and peace across the country.

In the words of Minister Tunji-Ojo, "Let us use this period to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous egalitarian nation." 

As Nigerians observe the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, they are reminded of the importance of patience, sacrifice, and resilience in building a brighter future for all.
