The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced that it’s investigating the cause of a fire incident at the Supreme Court in the early hours of Monday morning.

While noting that the situation had been brought under control with the assistance of police officers and firefighters, the command said that two court chambers belonging to two judges had been damaged by the fire.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, also said that the extent of the damage had not yet been determined at the time of reporting.

On September 25, 2023, at about 7 am there was a fire incident at the Supreme Court. The situation is under control, and the fire service and police officers are all on the ground.

“Only two chambers of two judges were affected, at the moment properties destroyed yet to be ascertained. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by appropriate authorities, and further information will be communicated later,” Adeh clarified.

A fire engulfed a section of the Supreme Court building in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) early on Monday morning, according to a report from the newsmen. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but a source at the Federal Fire Service said that firefighters were on the scene.

It was not clear how much damage had been caused by the fire, but there were no reports of injuries.

The Supreme Court, which is the highest court in Nigeria, is located in the Three Arms Zone of the FCT, which also houses the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa.
