The Bauchi State government has dethroned six traditional rulers in the state, citing their involvement in partisan politics and other acts of misconduct as the reason for their removal.

The affected traditional rulers include the District Head of Tafawa Balewa, the Emir of Dass, the Emir of Misau, the Emir of Ningi, the Emir of Jama'are, and the Emir of Katagum.

The dethronement of the traditional rulers was announced by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Abubakar Ibrahim Umar, at a press conference held at the Government House in Bauchi.

According to Umar, the decision to remove the traditional rulers was made after consultations with the state's Emirate Council, and in line with the provision of the state's Chieftaincy Law.

The affected traditional rulers have been directed to hand over the properties of their respective emirates to the most senior district heads.

According to Umar, the state government received several complaints from members of the public about the involvement of the dethroned traditional rulers in partisan politics.

He also said that the affected traditional rulers were found guilty of other acts of misconduct, including the violation of the Chieftaincy Law, financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and disrespect to the government and other traditional institutions.
