On July 22, 2023, three people were killed in Matazu and Kankia Local Government Areas of Katsina State by suspected bandits.

The first victim, identified as Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Solo, was shot and killed in Kankia that night.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, said the attack happened in a low-cost residential estate near the Kankia General Hospital around 8:40 pm.

Following the attacks, traders, residents, and passers-by on the Katsina-Kano highway were reportedly gripped by panic.

In addition, two friends who were abducted by bandits in Matazu LG were confirmed dead on July 21, 2023.

Jamilu Banju and his friend were reportedly kidnapped at a bakery one month ago, along with some other youths.

A community member stated that despite collecting ransom from the victims' families, the bandits killed the men.
