In a letter allegedly leaked online, the Lagos State government has reportedly approved the sum of N61,285,000.00 for the mass burial of 103 victims of the 2020 #EndSARS protests.

Lagos State government approves N61m for mass burial of 103 Endsars victims after three years;

The letter, dated July 19, was addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and signed by the Director General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Onafowote Fatai Idowu.

It stated that TOS Funerals Limited was awarded the contract for the burial.

It is worth noting that the Lagos State government's alleged approval of the mass burial of the 2020 #EndSARS victims comes almost three years after the same government denied that security forces had killed unarmed protesters on the night of October 20, 2020, at the Lekki toll gate.

At the time, the protesters were waving the Nigerian flag and singing the national anthem when security forces opened fire on them.

According to the panel, the cases of deaths and injuries sustained by protesters were credible, and recommended that the families of the victims should be compensated and that the bodies should be released to them. It is unclear whether or not the directive to release the victims' bodies to their families has been followed

Meanwhile, the letter signed by Mr. Idowu confirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu had approved the contract for a mass burial for the victims.
