AFCON 2023: “Muscular Injury will not make Kelechi Iheanacho Join The Super Eagles For AFCON”– Leicester coach

Super Eagles Striker and Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been confirmed that he will not be able to join his colleagues in the 2023 Africa Cup OF Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

This was announced by Leicester City’s coach Enzo Maresca during a press conference ahead of their match against Coventry on Saturday.

While a statement on the club’s website confirmed the return of Jamie Vardy, who turned 37 this week, as well as Kasey McAteer and Dennis Praet, it stated that “Kelechi Iheanacho remains out“.

However, this is a contrary opinion to that confirmed by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, who said that Iheanacho has recovered from the injury and will join the team in camp on Saturday, as revealed by Completesports.

Super Eagles will have their first outing in the continental tournament on Sunday, January 14, against Equatorial Guinea by 3:00 pm.
