Appeal Court Orders Yahaya Bello to Present Himself for Arraignment in N80 Billion Misappropriation Case

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has issued a directive to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to present himself for arraignment in connection with allegations of misappropriating over N80 billion during his eight-year tenure.

The court's ruling on Tuesday, August 20, also prohibits Bello from taking any further action until he is arraigned.

In its verdict, the court set aside the previous judgment delivered by the Kogi State High Court, paving the way for Bello's arraignment.

This development comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence a few months ago, but was thwarted by Governor Usman Ododo.

"We have set aside the judgment of the Kogi State High Court, and we order Yahaya Bello to present himself for arraignment," said the presiding judge. "He must not take any further action until he is arraigned."

Bello's whereabouts have been unknown since the EFCC's attempted arrest, fueling speculation about his willingness to face trial.

The EFCC is currently prosecuting Bello for allegedly misappropriating state funds during his governorship.

"We will ensure that justice is served in this case," said an EFCC spokesperson. "We urge Yahaya Bello to present himself for arraignment and face the charges against him."
