Arrest of Former Rivers State Candidate Sobomabo Jackrich Sparks Controversy

Sobomabo Jackrich, a former National Rescue Movement candidate in the 2023 general election in Rivers State, has been arrested. According to Channels TV, Jackrich was apprehended by individuals dressed in military attire at his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area of the state on Monday morning, April 8, 2024.

Jackrich, also known as 'Egberipapa,' was previously a militant leader who accepted amnesty during the late President Umar Yar'Adua's administration.

Sources familiar with the situation reported that the arrest, allegedly carried out in a commando style around 2:00 am on Monday, led to the deaths of two of his aides.

Jackrich's media aide, Soibibo Sokari, confirmed the incident to Punch, describing it as an abduction. Sokari stated, "Yes, it is true he was abducted this morning. Two persons were killed, and their bodies were taken away along with him. We are still investigating the incident to gather more details. We are not sure who is behind it. However, as more information comes to light, we will inform the public."

The state police command's spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, also confirmed the incident, stating that it was not a kidnapping but that Jackrich was in the custody of security personnel. "It is not a kidnapping. He is with some security personnel. That is all I can say for now," she added.
