Deadly Sara-Suka Clash in Jos Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

A fresh wave of violence erupted in the Yantifa community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, as rival gangs known as Sara-Suka clashed on Tuesday evening. The brutal confrontation left one person dead and three others critically injured, sending shockwaves through the community.

Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos as the armed gangs wielded machetes and engaged in a violent confrontation, forcing terrified residents to flee for safety. The incident, which is the latest in a series of escalating clashes between rival Sara-Suka factions, has heightened tension in the area.

Lawan Chizo, a member of the local vigilante group, confirmed the violence and stated that security operatives, including soldiers, were swiftly deployed to the scene to restore order. According to Chizo, the fighting broke out between Sara-Suka members from Anguwan Rogo and Yantifa, two groups with a long history of bitter rivalry. Residents have expressed frustration over the persistent violence, calling for urgent intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police has responded by summoning an emergency meeting with community leaders to address the security threat posed by the notorious gang activities. Authorities are exploring measures to curb the recurring violence and dismantle the criminal networks fueling these clashes.

This latest outbreak of violence follows closely on the heels of a deadly confrontation two days prior, in which three members of the Sara-Suka gangs were reportedly killed near the Al-Mohap praying ground. The repeated clashes have left residents in constant fear, with many calling for a decisive crackdown on the gang menace.

The state government and security agencies are facing mounting pressure to implement lasting solutions to curb the influence of the Sara-Suka gangs, which have been linked to various criminal activities including armed robbery, drug abuse, and violence. As authorities deliberate on the next course of action, the people of Jos remain on edge, hoping for peace to return to their troubled community.
