In a major breakthrough, the Bayelsa State Police Command has busted a criminal gang that specialized in stealing mobile phones from unsuspecting passengers inside tricycles while posing as commercial drivers.

Six suspects were arrested, and police recovered four tricycles, five iPhones, fourteen Android phones, six button phones, amulets, and charms.

The Intelligence Bureau of the Bayelsa State Police Command was successful in apprehending the suspects after sustained surveillance, a sign of the force's commitment to addressing the problem of phone theft in the state.

In a case of brazen deception, the suspects would pretend to be both driver and passenger of a tricycle, with one posing as a driver and the other as a passenger.

They would then pick up a genuine passenger, and while the driver haggled over the fare, the other partner would steal the phone from the unsuspecting passenger.

The phones would then be sold at a low price to three additional accomplices, Abubakar Mallam, Ibrahim Ahmed, and Iliya Isiaka.
