The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Benue State, Hon. Matthew Abo, who was abducted by gunmen in his hometown in Ukum Local Government Area of the state has regained his freedom.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, confirmed the news.
The statement revealed that Abo has reunited with his family in Sankera, Ukum Local Government, where he was abducted. The statement also stated that Abo is in good health and that the government is working to ensure that all those involved in the abduction are brought to justice.
The release of Hon. Abo comes as a relief to many, as his abduction had caused anxiety and worry in the state. The information commissioner is one of the most visible and vocal members of the Benue State Government, and his abduction had sparked fears of a security breach.
The successful release of Hon. Abo is also seen as a sign of hope that other abducted persons may also be released.
