Everton Football Club of England has announced the death of its chairman and majority shareholder, Bill Kenwright, at the age of 78.

A statement on the club's website on Tuesday, October 24th, confirmed that the club was in mourning over the passing of its longtime chairman, who died on Monday evening.

Kenwright, who had been chairman since 2004, was a prominent figure in English football and a key figure in the history of Everton.

During his tenure as chairman, the club experienced success on the pitch and became a leading light in the community.

After joining the Everton board in 1989, Kenwright became the club's deputy chairman in 1999 after purchasing a majority stake.

He had served as Everton's chairman for almost 20 years, during which time the club experienced success on the pitch and made a significant impact in the community.

In August of this year, Kenwright was diagnosed with liver cancer and underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous tumour just a few weeks before his death.

Earlier this year, Kenwright agreed to remain on the board at the request of Farhad Moshiri, the club's owner, in order to help guide the club through a period of transition.
