In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday, a commercial bus driver was arrested for allegedly stabbing a LASTMA officer after being apprehended for causing traffic obstruction around Costain in Lagos.

The driver was said to have been blocking the main expressway while picking up passengers, resulting in significant traffic obstructions for other road users.

In an attempt to flee, the driver was said to have made dangerous driving maneuvers and stabbed the officer when confronted.

Following the incident, the driver reportedly stripped himself naked, causing a commotion that required police intervention from the Iponri Police Station. Officers discovered a cutlass and a knife in his commercial Volkswagen 'T4' bus after he was arrested.

The government has confirmed that the driver will be prosecuted immediately in order to deter other drivers from engaging in similar reckless behavior.

This incident highlights the dangers faced by LASTMA officers on a daily basis as they work to keep Lagos' streets safe.
