A Lagos couple, Ezimora Okechukwu and his wife Ezimora Obioma, have been sentenced to 11 years in jail for the sexual assault of their 15-year-old housemaid.

Okechukwu was sentenced to seven years for indecent handling and three years for sexual assault, to run concurrently, while Obioma was sentenced to one year of community service for concealing the crime. The couple pleaded guilty to the amended charges, which contravene Sections 135(1), 163, and 415 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on July 17, 2022, in the couple's home in the Abule-Osun area of Lagos. The victim reported the assault to Obioma, who failed to report it to the authorities. The court deemed the couple's actions "heinous" and a violation of the victim's rights.
