Ayo Ajayi, spokesperson for Dangote Refinery, has emphasized the need for Nigerian refineries to purchase crude oil directly from local producers, rather than relying on international middlemen.

"All we are asking for is for refineries in Nigeria to buy crude directly from the companies that produce it in Nigeria, rather than from international middlemen," Ajayi stated.

This approach, according to Ajayi, would streamline the supply chain, reduce costs, and increase efficiency in the refining process.

"By cutting out the middlemen, we can ensure a steady supply of crude oil at a competitive price, which would ultimately benefit the Nigerian economy," Ajayi explained.

The Dangote Refinery's call for direct crude oil purchase is seen as a step towards Nigeria's energy self-sufficiency and a reduction in its reliance on foreign imports.

"This is a common-sense approach that would benefit all stakeholders involved," said an industry expert. "It's time for Nigerian refineries to take control of their supply chain and stop relying on international middlemen."

The move is also expected to boost the Nigerian economy by increasing local content and reducing capital flight.
