Nigerian Afrobeat singer and music star, Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, has refuted a viral claim suggesting he was arrested in Uganda following his concert.

He described the allegation as false, stating that such reports are simply aimed at increasing social media interactions. In a press release issued on Tuesday, Davido mentioned that his legal team is considering taking action against these untrue publications that tarnish his reputation.

Earlier reports on Monday had suggested that the singer, currently on a world tour and having performed in Uganda and Kenya, was detained by police after his show on April 1. These reports alleged that Davido was arrested for a drug-related offense.

In response, Davido asserted that he has never been arrested in any country for any wrongdoing and advised the public to consider the publication as an 'April Fools' joke.

His statement reads: “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls. I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria.

“I'd also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I've made home throughout my career.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of 'April Fools', and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation.

“Thank you for your continued support. Our blessings are from God. I love you all.”
