In a recent development, the Borno State Police Command has taken nine protesters into custody for showcasing Russian flags in Maiduguri, the state capital.

This incident occurred on August 5 in the Zannari Tamsu area.

According to CP Yusuf Lawal, the State Commissioner of Police, "The suspects were arrested for displaying Russian flags, which is an unusual and suspicious activity in the state."

The arrested individuals have been identified as Khalafi Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abubakar, Mohamed Ibrahim, Abba Hassan, Bashir Ahmad, Musa Lawan, Abba Mallam, Habibu Auwal, and Inusa Abdullahi.

CP Lawal stated, "The suspects have been transferred to the Crack Squad for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

“We will ensure that they are charged accordingly."

The commissioner assured the public that normalcy has been restored in the state and that the police would continue to monitor and patrol the area to ensure public safety.

This incident is part of a larger trend, as protesters waving foreign flags have been spotted in various locations across Nigeria, including Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, and Borno, since the nationwide demonstrations began on August 1.

CP Lawal emphasized, "We will not tolerate any activity that could compromise national security or create tension among citizens.

“The police are committed to maintaining law and order in the state."
