On Thursday, a jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records to hide hush money payments to ex-porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump, the first US president ever convicted of a crime, denounced the trial as rigged and politically motivated. Alina Habba, appearing on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, insisted that Trump is a "victim of political, selective prosecution."

Following a seven-week trial at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records. Sentencing is set for July 11, but Trump has confirmed he will appeal the convictions.

Habba, who sat with Trump throughout the trial, stated that even if incarcerated, Trump intends to run in the US presidential election in November. She emphasized the urgency of addressing the corruption she claims has infiltrated the judicial system, asserting that nothing will deter Trump's candidacy.

Trump, who lashed out at his political adversaries, the jury, and the judge following his conviction, labeled Judge Juan Merchan a "tyrant" and accused him of unfairly targeting witnesses. President Joe Biden's campaign characterized Trump as unhinged and vengeful, asserting that the justice system was functioning as intended.

Trump's conviction has deepened political divides in the US as the nation heads towards the November election.
