The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has apprehended the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry, Ilorin, Kwara State, Adeniyi James, for allegedly swindling a member of the church out of N3,980,000.

In a statement, the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, stated that the victim, Oluwole Babarinsa, had lodged a complaint with the commission, alleging that James singled him out during a church event in 2021, claiming to have had a divine revelation that he would travel abroad.

The petitioner recounted that the cleric, during the revelation, inquired about his desired destination, to which he replied "Canada."

"Subsequently, an agreement was made to discuss further arrangements for the trip. The prophet later informed me of a contact in Lagos who could assist with my relocation to Canada, requiring N1.7 million for initial processing and N2.5 million for flight ticket and travel documents," the petitioner stated.

The petitioner explained that he had to sell some of his belongings and take out loans to raise N3,980,000, which he handed over to the prophet for the alleged purpose. However, after a prolonged period without any progress, he became suspicious and demanded a refund.

Despite several appeals and attempts to recover his money, the petitioner received no positive response from the suspect.

The EFCC mentioned that upon the completion of investigations, the suspect would be charged to court.
