The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed new charges against former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The charges include allegations of illegally printing Naira notes and unlawfully approving the withdrawal of about N124.8 billion from the consolidated revenue fund. The EFCC claims that Emefiele approved the printing of Naira notes without the necessary approvals, causing injury to the public.

Emefiele, who is already facing multiple charges in Abuja and Lagos, is expected to enter his plea before trial Justice Maryann Anenih. He was previously suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu and arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his Lagos residence. Emefiele spent time in custody before being granted bail.
