EFCC Twitter Handle Mysteriously Vanishes Amid Cyber Threats from Suspected Fraudsters

In a bizarre incident, the Twitter handle of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), @officialEFCC, has disappeared from the social media platform, leaving its 2.2 million followers in the dark.

"This account doesn't exist" is the message displayed on the page, sparking concerns about the agency's online presence.

EFCC's chief spokesman, Wilson Oyewale, confirmed the issue, attributing it to a network problem. "Our ICT department is working on it. They have been on it for almost 3 days now," Oyewale told The Gazette. "We are hoping it will come up again."

The disappearance of the EFCC Twitter handle comes on the heels of threats from suspected internet fraudsters, who vowed to launch a cyber attack against the agency for its alleged disregard of constitutional norms in cracking down on online activities.

The threats, made on Reddit and other forums, claimed that EFCC detectives extorted money from them. "We will take down your Twitter handle and make you regret ever messing with us," one commenter wrote.

Oyewale's assurance that the ICT department is working to resolve the issue has done little to alleviate concerns about the agency's vulnerability to cyber threats.
