Father of Late Singer Mohbad Questioned by Police Over Cyberbullying Allegations

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, was interrogated on Monday by officers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Father of Late Singer Mohbad Questioned by Police Over Cyberbullying Allegations

The questioning was in response to a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi.

In a statement on Tuesday, Monisola Odumosu, head of the Aloba legal team, said the petition concerned allegations of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation. These allegations followed an interview Aloba gave recently.

The statement partly read, “Mr. Aloba was invited to the police station and accompanied by his legal team representatives, Teri Wellington and Monisola Odumosu. Oba Saheed Elegushi claimed that during an interview with a London-based blogger, Mr. Aloba made defamatory statements, alleging that his son was bullied and killed on the monarch's instructions, with Sam Larry executing the act.”

Aloba clarified that his intention was not to defame or engage in cyberbullying against Oba Elegushi but to seek justice for his late son. He noted that he had no proof to support his allegations aside from his late son's petition and their phone conversations.

Odumosu added that during the meeting, Oba Elegushi demanded a retraction of the defamatory statements, and Aloba was neither arrested nor detained but was granted bail without difficulty. He emphasized that Aloba, still grieving his son's death, might have made unreasonable statements impulsively.

Mohbad died at 27 on September 12, 2023, with his death stirring controversies on social media. A former signee of Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command initiated a special investigation team, leading to the arrests of Naira Marley and socialite Sam Larry.

Mohbad's body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, to determine the cause of death. However, an autopsy could not establish the cause due to the body's decomposition. Controversy also arose when a US-based lab denied conducting a toxicology test on Mohbad, despite claims by the Lagos State Government.

Responding to inquiries on May 17, Esther Dede from NMS Labs confirmed, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.”
