Food Inflation in Nigeria Sees Massive Decline, Says Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga

In a recent tweet, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, revealed that food inflation in Nigeria has significantly decreased.

He cited a report by TheCable, which stated that the prices of a basket of tomatoes have dropped from N150,000 to N60,000 due to new harvests.

According to the report, traders in Ketu and Berger markets confirmed the new prices. A trader at Ketu market said, "A big basket of tomatoes is currently selling for about N55,000 to N60,000, down from an average of N150,000 a few months ago."

Another trader in Ketu market added, "A small basket of tomatoes now costs between N20,000 and N25,000."

Onanuga attributed the decline in prices to the new harvest season, stating, "It is the season. Hausa tomatoes and peppers are already coming out."

The report also noted that the price of a crate of tomatoes has decreased from N55,000 to N30,000, while a large basket of habanero pepper (rodo) now sells for an average of N25,000, down from N55,000.
