Former Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari Released from Custody After 27 Months

After 27 months of incarceration, former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kyari, who once led the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was arrested on February 14, 2022, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) due to alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking operation.

His release was verified by Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service's FCT Command, on Friday, May 31, 2024. According to Duza, Kyari's release was granted after he met his bail conditions.

"DCP Kyari has perfected his bail conditions and has since been released today," Duza said.
