Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele has been released after meeting the bail conditions set by the court.

He arrived at the Lagos High Court in the custody of EFCC operatives but left for home after the proceedings. Justice Rahman Oshodi granted him bail in the sum of N50m with two sureties in like sum. The trial commenced immediately after his bail was granted, with the EFCC calling its first prosecution witness, a CBN staff named Monday Osazuwa. Osazuwa testified that Emefiele directed him to collect $3 million in cash in multiple instances.

He also mentioned being sent by Emefiele to collect cheques for Dumies Oil and Gas. Osazuwa stated that the second defendant, Henry Isioma Omoile, resided in Emefiele's house and passed instructions from Emefiele to him. The trial is set to continue on April 29, with applications for a closed session for some prosecution witnesses to be heard.
