In a dramatic turn of events, the trial of Tyrese Haspil, the assistant who murdered Gokada CEO Fahim Saleh, has taken a surprising turn.

Haspil's attorney, Sam Roberts, argued that his client's actions were driven by an "extreme emotional disturbance" fueled by his "unconditional love" for his girlfriend, Marine Chaveuz. According to Roberts, Haspil feared that Chaveuz would leave him if she discovered he was embezzling funds from Saleh to finance their lavish lifestyle.

Haspil's obsession with Chaveuz led him to spend nearly $400,000 on luxury items and experiences, including designer goods and helicopter rides. His attorney claims that he was willing to do whatever it took to keep her, even if it meant killing Saleh to avoid being caught and losing the lifestyle he had built.

Prosecutors, however, argue that Haspil's motives were purely selfish, driven by greed and a desire to maintain the luxurious lifestyle he had created through embezzlement. They point out that Haspil had a history of theft and had previously embezzled funds from a former employer.

The case has raised questions about the nature of love and obsession, and whether Haspil's actions can be justified as a crime of passion. The jury will begin deliberations on Monday, June 24, and the outcome could have significant implications for Haspil's future. If convicted of first-degree murder, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years to life in prison.
