The torrential rains that struck Hong Kong on Thursday brought the city to a standstill, submerging roads, shopping centers, and metro stations, and forcing school and work closures.

Social media videos showed the intense rainfall as drivers struggled to navigate flooded streets.

In one particularly harrowing video, a woman is seen being swept away by the torrents of water, and in another, metro workers are seen wading waist-deep in water as they try to keep the station safe for passengers.

Collapsed roads and landslides further complicated the situation, blocking traffic in the affected areas.
