After nearly three weeks without a House Speaker, Republicans overwhelmingly elected Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana as the next Speaker.

Johnson, the former deputy whip for House Republicans, won 220 votes on the floor following a series of events that saw Majority Whip Tom Emmer drop out of the race.
Emmer withdrew after failing to gain support from the conservative wing of the Republican Party, who were backed by former President Donald Trump.
With the support of all factions of the party, Johnson was elected Speaker, and received a warm reception from fellow Republicans on the floor.
