According to eyewitness Mr. Tunde Are, the inferno began around 11 am, causing people to run in all directions as they attempted to contain the blaze before the rescue teams arrived.

As of 1 pm, rescue efforts led by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) were still ongoing to extinguish the fire.

The fire reportedly started due to a spillage of petroleum products within the terminal's perimeter.

Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident and stated that coordinated efforts with various emergency responders in the oil and gas industry were underway to manage the situation.

"The public is assured that the emergency operation is under control and will not escalate further," Adeseye said.
