Justice Served: Six Protesters Freed After Almost Four Years in Prison

The defendants, Daniel Joyinbo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni, and Azeez Isiaka, were freed after almost four years in prison.

The defendants had entered a plea bargain agreement, pleading guilty to a count charge of breach of the public peace.

Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi found them guilty but chose to caution and free them, considering their extended detention.

"The defendants have spent almost four years in custody, and I believe they have been sufficiently punished," Magistrate Osunsanmi said. "I hereby caution and discharge them."

The ruling marks a significant victory for the defendants, who have maintained their innocence throughout the ordeal.

"We are relieved and grateful for the court's decision," said one of the defendants. "We hope this outcome will serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding human rights and the rule of law."

The case highlights the need for judicial reform and the protection of citizens' rights during protests.
