Lagos Government Issues 48-Hour Eviction Notice for Illegal Structures on Gbagada Bariga Channel

Announcing this on X, Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner of Water and Environment, stated that the drainage channel, which serves to de-flood Bariga, Gbagada, Sholuyi, and surrounding areas, has been obstructed by illegal structures. These obstructions, created by squatters and property owners, have not only blocked the free flow of water but also posed significant nuisance and security risks to the community.

Wahab pointed out that the unauthorized shanties along the channel have impeded the stormwater collectors, leading to the severe flooding witnessed in the past week. He warned that once the 48-hour notice expires, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources will take action to remove the illegal structures and restore the channel's functionality.
