Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has sentenced a policeman, ASP Drambi Vandi, to death by hanging for killing a property lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem.

The court found Vandi guilty of murder, saying that he had "committed a heinous crime" and deserved the severest penalty.

The court noted that Mrs.Justice Harrison ruled that despite the fact that there were no eyewitnesses to the shooting, the evidence of the 11 witnesses who testified on behalf of the prosecution was "credible and convincing" enough to find the defendant guilty.

The trial lasted several months, with the prosecution presenting their case and the defense attempting to refute it. In the end, the court sided with the prosecution and ruled that the evidence pointed to the defendant as the perpetrator of the crime.

The victim, a 41-year-old pregnant lawyer, was shot and killed at the Ajah underbridge checkpoint on December 25, 2022, in a tragic incident that shook the community.
