A joint enforcement team consisting of members of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and the Kick Against Indiscipline task force has arrested 70 people for illegally dumping waste in public areas.

This information was disclosed on Friday by Kunle Adeshina, spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

Adeshina also revealed that the team has seized about 200 cartons of plastic and paper waste, 80 bags of waste, 40 hand-held waste bins, and 33 tricycles and trucks used for illegal disposal of waste.

Sharing photos from the operation, Adeshina wrote, "In a sting operation on Wednesday night across different locations led by LAWMA MD/CEO, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, joint enforcement teams arrested over 70 people for dumping waste indiscriminately on the road sides under the cover of darkness.

"The team which included KAI operatives patrolled areas like Lawanson, Ijesha, Isolo, Agege Motor Road, and Apapa Road, with the Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbedegesin promising that the action would not be a one off exercise."
