Man Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Indian Hemp into Kano Correctional Centre

A 52-year-old man, Hamisu Mamuda, was apprehended while trying to sneak 12 parcels of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian Hemp, into Kurmawa Correctional Centre in Kano State.

The State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed this in a statement on Monday, April 29, 2024. He stated that the suspect was caught attempting to smuggle the drugs with the intention of selling them to inmates.

"On April 27, 2024, personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service stationed at Kurmawa Correctional Centre apprehended one Hamisu Mamuda, 'm', aged 52 years of Samegu Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, in possession of twelve (12) Nylon bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp concealed in his jacket, as he attempted to smuggle them into Kurmawa Correctional Centre with the intent to sell them to inmates," the statement indicated.

The suspect has also admitted to the offense and is currently being held at the Command's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation.

"After the investigation is completed, the suspect will be prosecuted in court."
