According to eyewitnesses, the man was seen murmuring to himself in Yoruba, expressing his exhaustion with life, before plunging into the river.

A witness, who identified himself as Muri, recounted the heartbreaking scene. "I saw him approaching me on the bridge, muttering something in Yoruba that sounded like 'ile aye ti su' (I am tired of this life). Before I could even comprehend what was happening, he swiftly jumped over the railings into the river."

The Osun State Fire Service was promptly alerted, and firefighters from the Okefia and Abere stations rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the man. However, their efforts were hindered by the swollen river, which had overflowed its banks due to heavy rainfall. The strong current and high water level made it impossible for the firefighters to reach the man.

Ibrahim Adekunle, the fire service spokesperson, confirmed the incident and urged people to seek help instead of resorting to suicide. "Suicide is never the answer to any challenge. We encourage individuals facing difficulties to reach out to professionals, friends, and family for support." The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
