On September 12, 2022, the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, officially inaugurated the Lagos-Ibadan rail corridor, marking the first time cargo was moved on the rail line.
The Minister toured the corridor from Ebute Meta station, where he launched the project, to Apapa and finally to Ibadan, travelling a total of 157 km.
The inaugural freight movement was comprised of three coaches with 30 wagons, and the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) plans to scale up the number of coaches.
