MTN Network Saga: Undersea Cable Fails, MTN Customers Suffer Service Disruption

MTN Nigeria announced that the network connectivity issues experienced by their customers stemmed from damage to an undersea cable abroad.

The disruptions affected both voice and data services, leading to communication problems for many subscribers. Concerned customers expressed frustration on social media about the prolonged outage and its impact on their daily routines.

The telecom company assured customers that they were actively working to fix the problem and restore services quickly. This issue is part of a broader situation affecting connectivity in various West African nations due to breaks in multiple undersea cables. Other operators in Nigeria, including Airtel and 9Mobile, also faced network problems recently.

The Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria attributed these connectivity issues to fiber cuts by road construction workers hired by the government. Similar cable outages were affecting internet and cloud service providers in South Africa, as noted by Vodacom.
