The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for an urgent investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into serious bribery allegations involving its officers and popular socialite Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

These accusations have sparked concerns across various quarters, suggesting that Bobrisky, a convicted individual, allegedly paid ₦15 million to avoid serving his prison sentence in a correctional facility and instead served it in a private residence.

Further allegations claim that a government pardon was supposedly offered in exchange for this bribe.

In response to these troubling reports, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) released a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive and impartial investigation.

He called for the involvement of key institutions such as the Attorney General of the Federation and the Office of the National Security Adviser to ensure a transparent inquiry.

The NBA also highlighted the distinguished reputation of prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), known for his unwavering commitment to justice and integrity.

The association urged the public not to rush to conclusions about his involvement or anyone else's role in the matter, stressing that the legal profession's reputation must be upheld during the course of the investigation.

The NBA’s call for transparency in this case underscores the need to maintain trust in the legal and law enforcement sectors, as it seeks a fair resolution of these serious accusations.
