Dr. Olayemi Cardoso has been appointed as acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following the resignation of Godwin Emefiele.

The new acting Governor was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari and his appointment is pending the confirmation of his nomination by the National Assembly.

The resignation of Mr. Emefiele was reportedly confirmed by the Director of Corporate Communication at the CBN, Dr. Isa Abdulmumin.

Dr. Cardoso takes over from Mr. Folashodun Shonubi who was acting as CBN Governor following the suspension of Mr. Emefiele.
